OFFSHORE- Overall another very good week of fishing offshore. Good dolphin fishing in the 500' range. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid has been a reliable choice for the dolphin. Look for weedlines, current rips, and color changes...the dolphin won't be far behind! Blackfin Tuna action remains very good in 250-350' of water. A live bait suspended 30-50' below the surface is a sure fire bet for the tuna. A vertical jig dropped 50-100' down and ripped back up will also drive the blackfin wild. Best bite will be early and late in the day. When the sun gets up higher, get the baits down deeper for best luck. Kingfish are stacked along the 120' ledge in good numbers. A live sardine is top bait choice for the kings. A dead sardine on a knocker rig will also work well for the kings. Trolling lipped plugs or a bonita strip behind a planer is also a solid choice. Snapper fishing has been very good over the past week. Some really nice muttons over ten pounds came in this week (see the monster Denis caught below!). Sardines and ballyhoo have been the top bait choice for the muttons. Good fishing and a good forecast for the weekend...get after it if you can!
INSHORE- Snook fishing continues to improve inshore. Stable warm weather will only make the snook fishing better and better. Lowlight periods and nighttime will be the best for the snook. For best luck work on fishing the tide (can be incoming or outgoing, it just needs to be moving). Snook have been on the bridges at night, and laid up under boat docks and seawalls during the day. A live mullet is top bait choice during the day. At night the snook are biting Flair Hawk Jigs and bigger swimbaits well. Beyond the snook, inshore fishing has been a bit on the slower side. A few mangroves around the bridges, but not in huge numbers yet. Small live pilchards and live shrimp are the bait of choice for the snapper. SURF/PIER- A bit slower along the beach this week; with the last of the pompano action all but coming to a screeching halt. South winds will just keep pushing the last of the pomps north. If you're trying to get the last of the late late season pomps it will be best to head north. The continuing warm stable weather has the snook biting better and better. The snook aren't stacked on the beach yet; but numbers are improving. The Juno Beach Pier snook bite continues to improve; both in numbers and size. The pier snook have been varying their diet these days: One day it's shrimp, the next it's mullet, and the following day they only want mullet. It's snook fishing...Be prepared to be frustrated! Best bite (for the most part) on the snook will be early morning and late afternoon. A few jacks (including some big boys) cruising the beach still. Tarpon continue to push north along the beach in decent numbers. For the most part it's easiest to find the tarpon moving first thing in the morning. Blue runners have invaded the pier in decent numbers. No big numbers, but a few kings still cruising around the pier in the afternoon. Croaker bite has been decent in the first trough. Small pieces of fresh shrimp are the bait of choice. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...Along the coast, S SE winds 10 to 15 kt. In the Gulf Stream, SW winds 5 kt becoming S SE 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 2 ft or less. Wave Detail: N 1 foot at 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers through the day. A slight chance of tstms. SAT...S winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 ft or less. Wave Detail: S 2 ft at 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Showers likely with a chance of tstms. Thanks For Reading, Todd Couple good catches from the past week. Jay Donly with a couple nice kings caught off Jupiter trolling ballyhoo, and Denis with a full grown mutton! OFFSHORE- The good mix of springtime action continued this week offshore. Still a handful of dolphin reports coming in, with a bulk of the dolphin coming in 350-600’ of water. Trolling squid, bonita strips, and small ballyhoo remains a solid choice for the dolphin. Look for the dolphin to be on current rips, color changes, floating debris, or areas with a lot of bait around. Blackfin Tuna action remains very good in 250-350’ of water. Early in the morning trolling small feathers and daisy chains will get the tuna bites. Bigger Blackfin’s will be caught with live baits or vertical jigs fished 50-75’ below the surface, especially as the sun gets up higher in the sky. Still a decent number of sailfish around for those putting the time in on the. Generally speaking the sailfish will be caught out a bit deeper (250-300ish) this time of year. Kingfish action remains very good along the 120’ ledge. Smaller live baits (sardines, threads, pilchards, etc) will be the best bet for the kingfish. A dead sardine fished on a knocker rig should also get a few kingfish bites. Some hungry (and rather large!) mutton snapper hanging out under the kingfish schools in 90-120’ of water. A sardine slid under the kingfish schools will often draw the attention of a big mutton! Some of the biggest mutton snapper of the year are caught like this…don’t miss out on it.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains the best bet inshore right now. Warming weather has them pointed towards the inlets. It’s not spawning time yet; but it’s not far off and the snook will start feeding heavily. Warm weather has the snook’s metabolism creeping up; so bigger baits and lures definitely are coming into play. During the day look for the snook to be laid up along seawalls and under boat docks. Early morning a topwater will play for the snook; while a live mullet is top choice once the sun starts to get up. At night the snook have been biting well around the bridges. A flair hawk jig is a solid choice for the snook right now. A bigger swimbait is also going to be a good choice. Docklights will also be holding a good number of snook (though most of the fish on dock lights tend to be a bit smaller). SURF/PIER- Pompano action slowed way down this week; but still a handful of fish hanging on! Sounds like the pompano fishing remains better up to the north of us. A lot of shorts to pick through as well before getting a keeper or two. Snook fishing has improved along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier this week. Warm conditions, nice looking water, and some bait showing up has the snook popping off halfway decent. A Rapala X-Rap or similar small swimming plug is a good choice for the snook right now along the beach. Still a few good schools of jacks cruising the beach. Blue runners are showing up at the Juno Beach Pier in good numbers (summer is here!). Also starting to get more and more reports of tarpon cruising north along the beach. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...S SW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to around 25 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: S 3 ft at 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SAT...W winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt becoming SE in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: W 3 ft at 4 seconds and N NE 2 ft at 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers. Thanks For Reading, Todd Fish with some fun snook fishing by-catch… OFFSHORE- Another interesting week of weather; with a fairly decent forecast for the upcoming weekend. Dolphin fishing has been very good for those making it out, with 300-500' of water producing best on the dolphin. East wind could/should help push the dolphin a little closer in this weekend as well. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid remains a solid choice for the dolphin. It for the most part remains smaller packs of fish (with decent average size), and not big number schools. Blackfin action remains good in 250-300' of water. Trolling small feather and small daisy chains early in the morning is a good way to produce some tuna bites, though most of the fish will be on the smaller side. For the bigger blackfin tuna try fishing live baits 20-50' down, or drop a vertical jig down to them. Sailfish numbers continue to remain good, with multiple releases being pretty standard. Shouldn't be a problem to get the kites up this weekend, and a mixed bag of dolphin, blackfin, kings, and sails are all likely to grab a live bait splashing on the surface. No wahoo reports to speak of on the moon, though that was likely due to rough weather on the best days. Bottom fishing remains good. Some solid mutton catches continuing to come in, along with a cobia or two still. Sardines remain the bait of choice on the bottom. Overall good mixed springtime action continues, it's a great time to get offshore when conditions allow!
INSHORE- Snook fishing continues to improve as the weather warms up. When it comes to snook fishing (for the most part) the hotter it gets, the better it is. Warming temps have the snook's metabolism bumped up, and they are jumping on bigger baits better now. At night a flair hawk or bigger swimbait will be top lure choices for the snook. Early morning a noisy topwater (like a Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil) is good choice worked along seawalls and around docks; especially in spots with some current on them producing ambush points for the lazy snook. It's important in any situation to remember snook (and tarpon) are generally very lazy and want to exert as little energy as possible to track down a meal. In other words use the wind and current to your advantage to easily present baits naturally to a laid up snook. A little early for the snook to get in the inlets, but they are beginning to head slowly in that direction. A handful of resident tarpon mixed in with the snook inshore, along with a few jacks as well. Mangrove snapper action inshore remains fair. They like the snook, should improve in numbers with warming weather. Look for the snapper to bite best at night around bridges or boat docks; with the best bite happening on moving water. Generally speaking the best bite will be on the top of the outgoing tide, but overall moving water is the real key. SURF/PIER- Pompano bite remained pretty good this week; though numbers are beginning to tail off a bit. Those putting the time in on the beach continue to produce at least a handful of pomps, but limits are becoming a little tougher to come by. East winds in the forecast this weekend though should help push some of the pompano that maybe moving a little more offshore in closer to the beach. The usual baits on the beach (Snaffles, clams, FishBites) remain the best choice. The Juno Beach Pier continues to produce a handful of pomps on the Docs Goofy Jig as well. Surprisingly enough, still a few late season bluefish around. The big jacks have thinned out a bit, but still a few schools pushing through. A GT Ice Cream, diamond jig, or Rapala X-Rap all remain good lure choices. A few kingfish have showed up at the Pier late in the afternoon. A Rapala X-Rap or Yo-Zuri Mag Speed is the top lure choice for a shot at a kingfish. Snook continue to improve in numbers along the beach and at the pier. A handful of keeper snook have been caught over the past week, with a few comings on live baits and a few on dead sardines. Sandperch and crackers are biting good in the first trough on small pieces of fresh shrimp. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...E winds 15 to 20 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SAT...E winds 15 to 20 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers. A slight chance of tstms in the afternoon. SUN...E SE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers. A slight chance of tstms in the afternoon. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- A little bit of everything weather wise offshore this week, with everything from flat calm to very rough seas...and some more rough stuff on tap for the weekend. A mixed bag of action again offshore this week as well. Still a good sailfish bite, with multiple releases being the norm. A little of the sailfish interest has begun to taper off, but those putting the kites up are still getting the bites. Should be rough enough to fire up a good sailfish bite again this weekend. A scattered pick on dolphin again in 300-400' of water. It has been another week of scattered fish, with a handful of bigger fish in the mix. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid remains a good choice for the dolphin. Blackfin action slowed a bit this week; but still some good numbers for those really targeting them. Kingfish bite is good along the 120' ledge. Best bite is early morning and late afternoon for the kings. Drifting sardines on a knocker rig is a solid way to go for the kings. Bottom fishing reports remain good, with some good mutton reports. Sardines are the top bait choice on the bottom.
INSHORE- Snook fishing improved a bit more this week. A nice push of springtime mullet seems to be flowing through, with the snook responding nicely. Spring mullet run is not quite like the fall mullet run. It's more big mullet, and not in as large of schools. Most of the time the schools are moving quick; making feeding areas more important to focus on than the mullet schools themselves. Fishing seawalls, boat docks, and bridges with moderate current flow will be the best starting spots. Concentrate on fishing key ambush points, especially areas that have spots out of current for snook to lay in. A topwater early in the morning will get some killer blowups from the snook. A live mullet is the best bet when the sun starts to get up a bit. A handful of tarpon and big jacks mixed in with the snook. Mangrove snapper action improved a touch this week. It's not super consistent on the snapper yet, but it's a start. Pilchards and shrimp are top bait choices for the snapper. Decent bite on bigger sand perch in the ICW right now, with small pieces of fresh shrimp being the best bait choice. SURF/PIER- Another week of wild weather swings, but overall pretty good fishing again this week. The pompano bite has slowed down, but still a pretty solid pick at them. Seems like the Juno/Jupiter area has been producing a few more fish on the afternoon bite. From the beach it's the usual baits (Sandfleas, clams, fresh shrimp, and FishBites) producing the most bites. On the Juno Beach Pier the same baits will catch the pomps; with Doc's Goofy Jigs and Crappie jigs tipped with shrimp also catching a good numbers. The big jacks continue to move down the beach in good numbers. A Rapala X-Rap, GT Ice Cream, or Yo-Zuri Mag Speed are all good options to try and get in front of the big jacks. Spanish Mackerel have been around the pier in decent numbers. A small Rapala X-Rap or white crappie jig is a good choice for the Macs. Snook fishing improved a little more this week as well. We aren't talking big numbers yet, but those patiently putting in the time have been getting a few bites. Have also heard of a few schools of tarpon sliding up the beach as well. Looks like it maybe a bit of a blowout this weekend, but hopefully conditions don't get messed up too much. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...E NE winds 20 to 25 kt. Gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 3 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. SAT THROUGH SUN...E winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts to around 35 kt. Seas 5 to 8 ft, occasionally to 10 ft. Intracoastal waters rough in exposed areas. Thanks For Reading, Todd Fish (IG @fisher_mitchell_21) with a full grown jack caught on the Juno Beach Pier and Charlie (IG @gocharlesgo) with a solid Spanish Mackerel. The Rapala X-Rap tricked em both! OFFSHORE- Good springtime mixed bag action offshore this week...and for a change a nice looking weather forecast headed into the weekend. This is a great time of year offshore; with a wide variety of species possible. Sailfish action remains good, with multiple chances still the norm for those putting the kites up. Dolphin reports have been up good this week in 200-300' of water. Most of the dolphin have been a bit on the smaller side, but a few decent ones in the mix to keep it interesting. Trolling small ballyhoo and bonita strips is a good way to go for the dolphin. Drifting sardines in the same depth range and doing some chumming will also get the dolphins attention. Good blackfin action this week in the same 200-300' range. Best bite on the tuna will be first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon. Trolling small feathers or a small daisy chain should produce some numbers on the tuna. The bigger blackfin will be caught on live baits fished a little deeper or a vertical jig down deep. Kingfish, and the occasional wahoo, are scattered along the 120' ledge in good numbers. Early morning and late afternoon has been producing the best bite on the kings. Good snapper fishing in on the reef, with some solid mutton catches. A few teen plus pound muttons around, with numerous keepers in the mix as well. Overall just good fishing, it's worth a shot this weekend if you can go!
INSHORE- Warming weather has the snook biting much better this week. It's the usual deal for the snook. During the day the snook will be laid up under boat docks and along seawalls with some current. A live mullet fished in those areas is not going to go unnoticed for long. Early morning and late afternoon will also likely produce some good topwater action on the snook. Look for moving water around points and other ambush spots as good areas to target for the snook. Should be a handful of jacks and occasional tarpon mixed in with the snook as well. At night the snook have been biting well around the bridges. Flair Hawks and bigger swimbaits are top choices for the snook now. Look for bridges closer to the inlets to improve as the snook begins to head in that direction. Top of there outgoing tide tends to produce best results for the snook. SURF/PIER- Nice mixed bag action along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier this week. Pompano action slowed way down, but still a fair number of them around. Sounds like the pompano bite has moved north a bit; with some good reports coming from Hobe Sound beaches. Still a few pomps coming up at the Juno Beach Pier early in the morning, but the bite has slowed down to a slow pick at best. Surprisingly still a good scattering of bluefish around this week. Spanish Mackerel have been biting pretty good at the Juno Beach Pier this week. Crappie Jigs, small Rapala X-Raps, and small Yo-Zuri Monster shots are all good choices for the Macs. A few kingfish and big jacks making a showing at the pier throughout the week as well. With warming weather and a little more bait starting to show up, snook reports have started to improve as well. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...S SE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 ft or less. Period 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. . SAT...S SE winds 15 to 20 kt. Seas 2 ft or less. Period 3 seconds. Chris and Brett (in picture) trolled up some dolphin, blackfin tuna, and more this week. Great fishing offshore right now. OFFSHORE- Mixed weather over the week and a questionable forecast headed into the weekend has kept offshore traffic down. A few sailfish guys have made it out and produced some pretty solid release numbers. With north winds and a mild front pushing through this weekend; a live bait under the kite will not go unnoticed long by a hungry sail ( if not a king, dolphin, or wahoo...). Look for 150-250' to be a pretty good starting spot. A well formed rip, color change, or large area of bait will help dial in the search. A handful of scattered dolphin around in 200-300' of water. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid has been a good way to go for the dolphin. Blackfin tuna action remains good in 200-300' of water as well. A solid number of rudder fish around, with a few cobia in the mix as well. Kingfish remain scattered along the 120' ledge in solid numbers. Bottom fishing reports remain good. Some solid mutton snapper around, along with a mixture of yellowtail and mangrove snapper.
INSHORE- A little quiet inshore this week. Snook fishing remains fair, and should continue to improve over the next few weeks. The night snook bite remains fair around the bridges. A little more bait around (mixture of pilchards and a few mullet) this week helped the bite as well. Top of the outgoing tide tends to be the best bet for the snook, but don't overlook late incoming if the water is a little dirty. The Loxahatchee River has been producing some snook during the day. Boat docks and seawalls with some current flow and proximity to a little deeper water are great starting spots. Mangrove snapper bite continues to improve around the bridges as well. It's still early, but more and more little choppers making their way inshore. Live shrimp and pilchards are the top bait choices for the mangroves. Sounds like the tarpon bite in Palm Breach Inlet picked up a bit this week. SURF/PIER- Another good week of pompano action along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier again this week. For the beach the usual assortment of baits (sand fleas, clams, fresh shrimp, and FishBites) have all been working well on the pompano. On the Juno Beach Pier the same baits work well; with the jig bite (Doc's Goofy Jigs and jYG Pro Mycro's) also firing off too. Depending on conditions the pomps will bite throughout the day; but early morning and late afternoon do tend to produce the best results. Another good push of late season bluefish again this week. Every time I think the blues are just about gone, a good push of them makes another showing. GT Ice Creams, diamond jigs, and swimming plugs will all work well on the blues. Spanish Mackerel action was a bit slower this week, but still a fair number around. White crappie jigs and smaller size 8 and 10 X-Raps are a good way to go for the Macs. With all the pomps (and other species as well) finally seeing a few more blacktop sharks along the beach. A pretty good number of croakers and sand perch around in the first trough this week. Small pieces of fresh shrimp will be the bait of choice for them. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...N winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Period 5 seconds. SAT...N NE winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to around 25 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. .SAT NIGHT...NE winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to around 25 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. SUN...E winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Thanks For Reading, Todd Coop (IG @_coop_561_) with a killer combo last Sunday! OFFSHORE- The weather for the most part overall was not on our side this week, and it showed with few reports coming in. Conditions do look good headed into the weekend for the sailfish to bite. Live baits under the kite will be top bait choice for the sailfish. 150-250' of water (depending on water quality and current) is the best depth to target the sailfish. Mixed in with the sailfish should be some nice sized dolphin. Likely won't be large schools of dolphin, but instead smaller packs of bigger fish. If kite fishing isn't your deal, trolling small ballyhoo and bonita strips will be a good way to go. Blackfin Tuna action remains fair to good in 200-300' of water. Smaller live baits (pilchards or sardines) fished down deep or a vertical jig are a good way to go for the tuna. Along the 120' ledge the kingfish bite remains good. The banded rudder fish (aka amberines) have been around in solid numbers in the same area. A few cobia around as well. Bottom fishing reports remain a little slow, with a few scattered snapper ports coming in.
INSHORE- A little slim on inshore reports this week. Snook fishing was a little off, but a few around for those really putting in the work. Fair snook fishing around the bridges at night, with outgoing tide producing the best results. Flair Hawks and bigger swimbaits are starting to produce better and better for the snook. During the day best bet for the snook is mullet along the seawalls. A few snook biting topwaters in the river early in the morning. A few more mangrove snapper showing up in shore. Live shrimp and small pilchards are the top bait choice for the mangroves. SURF/PIER- The spring run of pompano is in full effect right now! Really good numbers of pompano coming in this week both at the Juno Beach Pier and along the beach. On the beach it is more of a bait bite; with sand fleas and FishBites catching the best. Shrimp and clams are also good baits to have (Pompano are funny fish, and will bite one bait better than another from day to day). On the Fishbites chartreuse and electric chicken colors have been the hottest, with flavor not mattering as much. On the Juno Beach Pier the pomp bite is split evenly between bait and jigs. For bait sand fleas, fresh shrimp, and Fishbites (like the beach) will be top bait choices. No super hot jig color, but chartreuse and pink seem to have the slight edge. Doc's Goofy Jig and JYG Pro Mycro have both been working well. Good number of Spanish Mackerel around the Juno Beach Pier as well. Depending on conditions a white crappie jig or size 10 Rapala X-Rap will be solid lure choices for the Macs. Still a little scattering of bluefish around. Are cool front will likely keep a few more around through the weekend. A diamond jig or GT Ice cream is a good lure choice for the blues. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...Along the coast, NW winds 10 to 15 kt. In the Gulf Stream, NW winds 15 to 20 kt becoming W NW 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft along the coast and 4 to 6 ft, occasionally to 8 ft in the Gulf Stream. Period 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SAT...N NW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt becoming N in the evening. Seas 2 to 3 ft along the coast and 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft in the Gulf Stream. Thanks For Reading, Todd Time tested...Doc's Goofy Jig still crushing the pompano. Now is the time! SHOP NOTE: CLOSED Easter Sunday
OFFSHORE- Rough weather this week has kept reports offshore to a minimum; and it doesn't look a whole lot better headed into the weekend. A mild front pushing through early in the weekend could fire the sailfish bite up again for those that can get offshore. Depending on water conditions and current look for the sailfish to be in 150-250' of water most likely. Expect some bigger dolphin to be mixed in with the sails as well in the same depth. Live baits under the kite is a great way to go for both. If kite fishing isn't your deal, trolling small ballyhoo and bonita strips should also get some bites. No blackfin reports this week to speak of, but they will be around when things calm back down a bit. Didn't hear anything on the wahoo with the moon, but I think that was largely due to the weather. Kingfish are scattered along the 120' ledge in good numbers. Bottom fishing reports have been few and far between. Hopefully Sunday, and moving into next week the ocean starts to calm back down a bit. INSHORE- Inshore reports have been a bit slim this week. Snook fishing has been fair for those really putting the hours in on them. A few more mullet moving around inshore has them popping off a little on the bigger baits. Pretty standard pattern on the snook right now. During the day it's going to be live baits under boat docks and along seawalls. At night look for the snook to be lurking along bridge shadow lines and on the outside edges of docklights. Best luck (In most places) is going to be the top of the outgoing tide. However, with some cloudier water this week incoming tide is producing as well. SURF/PIER- Pompano fishing has been pretty solid this week both on the Juno Beach Pier and along the beach when the weather allows. On the beach it's the usual assortment of baits (sand fleas, clams, shrimp, and Fishbites) doing the trick on the pompano. On the pier they are catching them on bait, and also pretty well on Docs Goofy Jigs. No hot color on the jigs tho speak of; but orange and pink do seem to be doing pretty good. Typically the best pompano bite is early and late in the day; but don't overlook high tide as well even if its in the middle of the day. Still a decent scattering of Spanish Mackerel around, along with some late season big bluefish. About time for some big jacks to come cruising down the beach as well. Decent amount of wind in the forecast for the weekend so stick to good casting lures (like GT Ice Cream, Rapala X-Raps, Diamond Jigs, Yo-Zuri Hydro Monster Shot) for best results. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...N NE winds 20 to 25 kt. Seas 5 to 7 ft, occasionally to 9 ft along the coast and 7 to 10 ft, occasionally to 13 ft in the Gulf Stream. Period 8 seconds. N NE swell 3 ft in the afternoon. Intracoastal waters rough in exposed areas. SAT...E winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 4 to 6 ft, occasionally to 8 ft. N NE swell 3 ft in the morning. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SUN...SE winds 10 to 15 kt along the coast to SE 5 to 10 kt in the Gulf Stream. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd Our new "Buoy" shirt is a must have for hot spring/summertime days! Lightweight long sleeve performance, with a hood, and a built in buff. OFFSHORE- After getting pretty lucky on the offshore weather last weekend (especially for small boaters)...it looks unfortunately like we return to normally scheduled programming this weekend! With nicer conditions early in the week the fishing reports have been very good. It has definitely turned into springtime pattern offshore with a good mixed bag of species possible right now. Dolphin reports picked up this week in 250-500' of water. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid have all been productive for the dolphin. It hasn't been huge numbers of dolphin; but the overall average size has been pretty good. Some really good sailfish days over the past week in 150-300' of water depending on conditions. Sunday (for those who can handle the rough stuff) looks like it could line up to be a hell of a day on the sails. In along the 120' ledge the kingfish bite has been very good; for both numbers and size. The kings are not schooled super tightly, instead the bite has been pretty solid up and down the line. Banded rudder fish have started to show up in solid numbers. They aren't boiling the top of the water yet, but they are here solid. With the rudder fish showing up the cobia reports have improved a bit, should open up on the cobia at pretty much any point. Snapper fishing has been very good as well; with good numbers and size on the muttons this week.
INSHORE- Snook fishing slowed down a bit this week, but still remains decent overall. During the day mullet fished along seawalls in the Loxahatchee has been the best bet for the snook. Docks and seawalls with some current flow and close to some deeper water will be the prime spots for the snook. A topwater plug fished in the same areas early in the morning and late in the afternoon will also work for the snook. Mixed in with the snook have been a few big jacks, and still a few late season big bluefish. Both of which will jump on a noisy topwater plug. It doesn't always make it the easiest to fish in, but some good wind this weekend will likely fire the fishing up inshore. Still a few pompano reports coming off of the Sailfish Flats in Stuart, though it does sound like that is slowing down a bit. Other inshore action remains a bit slow. SURF/PIER- Pompano reports were a bit better this week, both on the Juno Beach Pier and along the beach. A few pomps coming on the Goofy Jig; but the better bite has been on bait, with sand fleas being the top bait choice. The Juno Beach Pier has continued to produce a few Spanish Mackerel as well. White crappie jigs and small Rapala X-Raps have been the top lure choices for the Macs. A few schools of jacks have cruised through this week. Still also a few scattered bluefish around. It hasn't been big numbers of blues, but the ones that have cruised through (Mostly solo or very small packs) have been full grown ones. A spoon or diamond jig is a good way to go for both the jacks and bluefish. Gonna need something heavy to deal with the wind this weekend. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...SE winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts to around 30 kt. Seas 4 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft building to 5 to 7 ft, occasionally to 9 ft in the afternoon. Period 6 seconds. SAT...SW winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts to around 35 kt. Seas 5 to 8 ft, occasionally to 10 ft. Period 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters rough in exposed areas. Showers in the morning. A chance of tstms. In the Gulf Stream, seas 5 to 8 ft, occasionally to 10 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers in the morning. Thanks For Reading, Todd Love it when I get reports/pics like this. Regular fishing report reader Brock Hinman sent this photo of his girlfriend Lauren Mack with a full grown Loxahatchee River bluefish that crushed a topwater plug! OFFSHORE- Nice looking weather forecast headed into the weekend for a change! Fishing remained good offshore this week. Last Sunday and Monday the sailfish bite was very good; but slowed as the wind backed off. Southeast/South wind is not the most ideal for sails; but it does allow small boaters a chance to get the kites up. A decent bite this week on the dolphin in 200-400' of water. Trolling ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid will all do the trick on the dolphin. Blackfin Tuna action remains good in the same area as well. Trolling feathers and smaller lures will work good for the tuna early. As the sun gets up get the live baits or vertical jigs down deeper for best results. Kingfish remains scattered along the 120' ledge in pretty solid numbers. The bite seems to be a bit day to day; but overall pretty good. Mutton snapper has been good the past few days. Sardines remain the best bait choice on the bottom. Take advantage of the weather and get after it this weekend!
INSHORE- Snook fishing improved a bit more this week with the warming weather. Bigger baits and lures are starting to get more attention from the snook as well as their metabolism speeds up with the warming weather. During the day it's a live bait bite around boat docks and points with current. At night the snook have been biting well around bridges; especially on the top of the outgoing tide. Outgoing tide is not as important as you move away from the inlet: With dirtier water both tides will get bites, it just needs to be moving. Sheepshead action has pretty much dried up inshore. A few mangrove snapper have started to show up inshore. Live shrimp and small live pilchards are the top bait choice for the snapper. Sandperch bite has also been pretty good inshore this week. SURF/PIER- Pompano fishing improved this week along the beach. Ideal looking conditions going into the weekend so hopefully the pomps continue to roll through. Reports seem to be a bit better off of Hobe Sound Beach; but a decent scattering of pomps up and down the line have been coming in. The usual bait assortment (sand fleas, clams, shrimp, and FishBites) continues to do the trick on the pompano. Not as many pompano on the Pier this week, but a handful have been caught on Doc's Goofy Jigs. The Juno Beach Pier has had a pretty solid number of bluefish around the past few days. Heavier metal lures (diamond jigs, Yo-Zuri Monster Shots, etc) have been the best bet on the blues. A swimming plug like a Rapala X-Rap will also do the trick on the blues. A scattering of Spanish Mackerel around the Pier as well, but not in the numbers of the past few weeks. Spanish Mackerel action at Peck's Lake improved this week. Croaker bite has been decent in the first trough; with fresh pieces of shrimp being the bait of choice. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...SE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SAT...S winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 ft or less. Intracoastal waters light chop. SUN...S winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 ft or less. Intracoastal waters light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd Had an amazing trip camping in Everglades National Park last weekend. HUGE THANKS to my awesome friend Steven for putting it all together. I'd like to think twenty years from now our boys will be telling some killer stories from this trip around camp one night! |
